My approach and ethics

I am committed to providing a safe and respectful space where difficulties can be talked about and differences can be valued in their richness and uniqueness. I am committed to respecting my clients' diversity of beliefs, values, cultures, religions, sexual orientation, life experiences, family backgrounds and welcome feedback on my practice should anyone feel discriminated against or not valued as a unique person in therapy.

My aim is to help people from any background to feel listened to, respected and helped to find a way forward in their difficulties, considering multiple perspectives and new ways of being. My approach is flexible and tailor-made, as I believe that people are the experts of their own lives and are resourceful and able to find their own solutions.

I work openly with all my clients and I am committed to safe and professionally accountable practice.  I am committed to the ethics and standards of my professional body, the UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy), which requires regular supervision and on-going professional and personal development through attending regular training.

Information will remain confidential unless I become concerned about a child or an adult's well-being and at risk of harm. I will disclose only relevant information to an identified professional, for example  a GP or a relevant person within Social Services, after discussion with the client.

If after the first meeting I feel that the clients' needs would be better met by another therapist or professional I can offer some alternatives or signposting for specific help.

"We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time" (T.S. Eliot)
