F.U.N. Family Therapy

F.U.N. (Families United in Nature) Family Therapy is an innovative way of delivering family therapy longer sessions to families through Nature connection activities and family talks. It is an evidence-based project, which draws research evidence from the effectiveness of family therapy and ecotherapy. This is an expensive therapeutic intervention which has been offered for free up to now as pilot projects and now will be delivered again once funding is secured.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful day. We really got so much out of it. We enjoyed time together away from distractions, the variety of activities and different resources, the flexibility especially with my youngest son, the activities that involved doing something – finding things, the pictures of the animals, the wool in the jar (gave amazing insights). (Family of 3, Mum, daughter aged 7 and son aged 4 on a 4 hours FUN session in July 2020).

F.U.N. Family Therapy is activity-based and aims to offer families an opportunity to enjoy indoor and outdoor activities which will highlight current relational patterns and promote new ways of being with each other as a family.

The project draws on a relational systemic approach and family therapy ideas, which consider the importance of safe and secure family relationships in addressing individual children’s difficulties and parenting challenges and the importance of promoting family conversations in a supportive environment.

F.U.N. Family Therapy can be offered in the following format:

  • Individual Eco-family therapy sessions of 4 hours
  • Multiple families whole day sessions of 5 hours
  • Multiple Families programme of 6 whole day sessions every 6 weeks on a Saturday with a residential camping weekend at the end

The multiple families format offers a small group of families (maximum 5) to engage in nature-based activities in order to promote family attachments and identify strengths and sources of personal and family resilience. This is also designed to promote long-term support networks for families experiencing similar difficulties.
