SPECIALIST ADOPTION SUPPORT AND WORK WITH TRAUMATIZED CHILDREN

This section aims to provide adoptive and foster families, Local Authorities and Adoption agencies with information about the specialist work with children and their carers I can offer.

Specialist support work is to support adopters and foster carers and children who have suffered from severe abuse in their early years which led to separation and/or removal from their birth parents. The presenting issues may include dealing with a family crisis, self-esteem, identity, adolescence, difficult family relationships, attachment issues, angry outbursts and behavior management, violence or an unexpected break up or bereavement.

Services are specifically designed and tailor made to suit specific needs and may include the following:

  • Systemic Life story work with children and parents
  • Family Narrative work
  • Specialist Parenting support including NVR (Non-violent resistance) approach
  • Family work
  • Attachment work: a family secure base
  • Bereavement work
  • Parents' separation work
  • Siblings work
  • Family violence including child to parent violence
  • Trauma work (EMDR) for parents and children
  • Multi-group Eco-family therapy to a group of families with similar issues using nature as a therapeutic tool

"Trauma happens in relationships, so it can only be healed in relationships"

(Alanis Morissette)

"As comfortable as I was with my adoption, the nature-versus-nurture question has been a big one for me. I adore my parents, but I always wondered if I would feel a different kind of love-not more or less, just different-for someone who was biologically related" (Emily Procter)
