Rainbow CommUnity Projects is launching the OutDoor Family Therapy project in October 2020 to respond to the current pandemic and its traumatic effects on families by providing Family Therapy in nature. As families have been spending more time together and outdoor in nature, this project is to help families stay connected to Nature and with each other, facilitate family talks through nature i.e. a chance to identify, share their emotions and worries using the language of nature e.g. through a stick, a rock, the sea, a leaf or a tree. Using natural metaphors will help children to express and share their thoughts and feelings more safely and creatively.
The OutDoor Family Therapy project will offer Eco-family therapy sessions for an individual family e.g. single or both parents and one or more children. This is a highly professional service and thanks to the grant these sessions will only cost £5 (to be paid in advance) for those on benefits. This will require photo identification and proof of income via one of the following benefit documents:
- Universal credit
- Child tax and working tax credits
- Housing benefit
- Council tax support/reduction
- Income support
- Job seekers allowance
- Employment and support allowance
- Disability living allowance/personal independence payment (PIP)
- Pension credit
- State retired pensioners who are householders in council tax bands A-D
If you are not on benefits but therapy is unaffordable for you at this time the grant can cover half of the regular fees and therefore I can offer Eco-Family therapy sessions at a Community fee of £45 for families who live in Woodingdean and surrounding areas.
The OutDoor Family Therapy sessions are between an hour and an hour and a half long and require a minimum commitment of 4 sessions after which we can see whether this form of therapy is effective for you and you think it’s creating some positive changes in your family. Your feedback is important and will be collected at the end of each session to make further sessions tailor-made to your situation. After 4 sessions we will evaluate the effects of outdoor therapy and discuss the way forward.
The OutDoor Family Therapy sessions are taking place within the Memorial Grounds, along Warren Road, Woodingdean, Brighton BN2 6DD and surrounding green spaces.
I can assure you that all enquiries will be treated confidentially and reviewed on a need basis. If you are interested or wish to refer a family in the community please get in touch via the contact form or by email Rainbow.communityprojects@gmail.com
